Dave Roberts - The Steal
"The most the significant stolen base in MLB history."
October 17, 2004, AL Championship Series, Game 4, Fenway Park.
It has been called "the most the significant stolen base in MLB history." In the 2004 League Championship series, the Red Sox were down 3 games to 0 in a 7 game series against their most bitter rivals, the Yankees. No team had ever come back to win a playoff series after being down 3 games to none. It was the bottom of the last inning and the Yankees led 1-0. The greatest closer (relief pitcher) of all time, Mariano Rivera, was the Yankees pitcher. After this steal, the Red Sox tied the game and it went to extra innings. They finally won with a HR in the 12th inning. They went on to win 8 games in a row and win their first Championship since 1918.
